Sacra Famiglia, G32' (Sacred Family),
is the last remaining boat type of its kind. It was built in 1933 in Valletta and fitted with a Glasgow built diesel engine, its original purpose was to sail across the channel between Gozo and Malta, and is the predecessor to the current large roll-on roll-off shuttle ferries used today.
It was beached and pronounced unseaworthy in the 1980's and blocked a slipway until it was realised that it was the only survivor of this boat type. As it was virtually intact a restoration project was sponsored by the Gozo Channel Ferry Company, choosing the sons of the original boat builder to restore and preserve the boat.
Now it sits under a canopy on permanent display, and the search is still ongoing to find an original engine to make it complete.
